Outbreak of bovine disease

Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): Suspected cases of Heamorrhagic Septiceamia (HS)was detected in the districts of Peren, Jalukie & Dimapur and were tested at the State ELISA Laboratory, Kohima and confirmed to be fleamorrhagic Septiceamia (HS), a State veterinary official informed today. Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) is a major disease of bovine animal like cattle and buffaloes.   The Director of Veterinary & AH Kohima Dr. R. Thungchamo Ezung in a press note said that for final confirmatory diagnosis, samples were dispatched to ICAR Laboratory at Barapani, Meghalaya and result is being awaited, he said.

  The Department further said it is trying to contain the disease on a war footing and official from the Directorate Office is directly monitoring the situation and vaccines, essential medicines, logistic support are being dispatched.   A centre point at Ngwalwa has being set up to liaise with the farmers and Department to carry out treatment, ring vaccination etc, it added.   Meanwhile, livestock farmers are advised to restrict buffaloes and cattle movement from village to village within the district; reduce stress on draft animal, and avoid ploughing during hot period of the day.   Further, it is also cautioned to the farmers and the general public against selling and consuming the affected animals.
