The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland is expecting to immunize 1,53,000 children across the state. 

Joining the rest of the nation in launching National Immunization Day, Dr Vizolie Z Suokhrie, Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare formally administered polio drops to a child at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima on January 31.

Dr Suokhrie said that about 2,200 polio immunization booths have been set up in the state of Nagaland.

Once a deadly disease, he said, now with the Polio vaccine, India has been declared free from polio cases since 2011. In 2014, the WHO had certified that India has done away with Polio, he added.

“Together, let us fight against polio by giving the best polio vaccine to our children so that we will be able to overcome this disease and we can give a gift of polio free world,” he said.

Earlier, during the launching programme, the welcome address was delivered by Dr Ritu Thurr, State Immunization Officer. The function was chaired by NHAK managing director Dr Thorhüsie Katiry.
