Over 185 attends SHG Mela cum TATA water purifiers promotion prog

Pfütsero, October 5 (MExN): The Chakhesang Women Welfare Society in collaboration with North East Initiative Development Agency-An initiative of TATA Trust, Kohima, TATA Water Mission-A TATA Trusts Initiative, Uday Foundation Gauhati, organized a district level SHG Mela cum TATA water purifiers promotion programme at Pfütsero Town on October 5. A total of 185 SHGs participated in the Mela.  

The objective of the meeting was to provide SHGs from different blocks in the district to have a cross learning and earning experience during the mela and also to promote safety in drinking water by “making safe drinking water accessible to masses” through women SHGs.  

The programme started with a welcome address pronounced by Vechulo-u Kanuo, Executive Director CWWS. The guest speaker, I. Temjen Ao, Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Phek District, congratulated CWWS for the milestones achieved in strengthening a number of vibrant and active SHGs in the district and assured full support to the organization if future opportunities open under the Cooperative Societies. He also encouraged collectivization of existing SHGs into cluster groups to form cooperatives in order to avail different schemes and services under different departments and institutions. Further he also acknowledged and expressed appreciation to the CWWS for taking up a myriad of activities ranging from skill development of women and youth, SHGs, to food processing to intensive livelihoods promotion activities.  

Pepenthung Lotha, Project Associate, TWM-NEIDA, during the water purifier promotional session elucidated on the importance of safe water drinking and health risks involved in drinking unsafe water.  

T. Wezah, Associate Director cum Project Coordinator, also speaking in the program encouraged women to develop habit of tracking their spending and analysis of cost effectiveness of the different income generation activities the women undertake. She also emphasized that in any business, focus should be given to the sources where one’s income remain consistent and produce such crops where we have safe control over the market.  

A press release stated here that the programme also awarded prizes to nine SHG participants under the category of Best Agriculture Products, Best Horticulture products and Most Active SHGs in promotion and adoption of safe drinking water in the district.
