Over 30 contacts of COVID-19 positive QC volunteer quarantined in Manipur

Imphal, June 27  (NNN): More than 30 people including members of a family were quarantined in Manipur’s Thoubal district, after a caterer of quarantine centres in the district was tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Saturday.

On Friday, one of the nine volunteers who were engaged in catering service at community quarantine centres within Thoubal assembly constituency of Thoubal district was confirmed infected by the virus.

After the infected volunteer was admitted at the isolation ward of the Thoubal district hospital, the district administration along with the Health authority and COVID-19 surveillance teams in the district took up contact tracing on Saturday.

So far, they picked up over 30 people including all family members of the infected volunteer and nine caterers who work together in the service with the said volunteer.

Those who had close contact with the infected volunteer have been quarantined at a community quarantine centre while members of the 'Thoubal assembly constituency COVID 19 Aid Committee’ involved in the catering service are lodged in a quarantine centre.

An official of the district administration said that samples of those people who had close contacts with the infected volunteer were collected on Saturday and sent for testing for the virus. The results are likely to return on Sunday, he added.

The district COVID-19 surveillance team has also taken up all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing, he added.

Contact tracing is being initiated after taking contact histories of the people who are in quarantine centres, he also said.
