PAC convenes meeting with Dimapur CSOs, NCD objects

Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): A meeting convened by the Public Action Committee (PAC) Dimapur on September 26 to discuss “the rise in rampant illegal collection of money in and around Dimapur,” has stirred up another controversy with the Naga Council Dimapur.

In a press release on Friday, the PAC had convened the meeting with all civil society organisations (CSOs) in Dimapur at the Western Chakhesang Hoho Conference Hall.

It had requested all the PAC members, President and Secretaries of all Tribal Hohos, NWHD, DUCCF, DCCI, DNSU, BAN, ACAUT, Dimapur Sadar GB Association, non-Naga communities, and transporters to attend the meeting on priority.

However, the NCD issued a separate statement later on Friday, stating that it “has no knowledge and has not convened any such meeting.”

“NCD has already dissolved all the sub-committee including Public Action Committee (PAC) on March 10, 2020 prior to the installation of the new office bearers,” the NCD statement read.

Stating that the council is now actively functioning under the leadership of K Ghokheto Chophy, President of Naga Council Dimapur and that all sub-committees under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur is yet to be constituted, it said that the scheduled meeting is not endorsed by the Naga Council Dimapur.

As such, it urged those behind the ‘self-styled meeting’ not to mislead the public and also appealed citizens of Dimapur not to participate in such meetings.
