DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today condemned the multiple taxes being levied on the public both by the Naga Political Groups, welfare unions/societies and state government agencies. A press note from PAC Convener, Vekhosayi Nyekha and NCD Vice President, K Ghoketo Chophy informed that the PAC held a discussion on this issue on July 27.
As part of the meeting’s resolutions, the PAC condemned the “activities of Naga Political Groups serving demand notes and intimidating the business community with arms within Dimapur.” It called upon Naga Political Groups once again to stop all such activities immediately and maintain their commitment to shun away from various tax collection “with true spirit and not in words alone.” The meeting further agreed that19 Tribal Hohos, NCD, DUCCF, DCCI, NWHD and the Senior Citizens Forum would conduct consultative meetings with their respective members/tribes and deliberate on how to streamline the burden of multiple taxation, syndicates, lease systems and various taxes by Naga Political Groups, Unions/Organizations etc; including state government agencies. The reports from these meetings are to be submitted to the PAC on or before August 18. This issue, the PAC stated has added to the burden of the public and is affecting the economy.
