Pangti village points out NREGA fund irregularities

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): The intervention of the Director of Rural Development, Nagaland, has been sought regarding irregularities in the payment of sanctioned amount under NREGA schemes at Pangti village in Wokha district. In a letter addressed to the Director of Rural Development, the adhoc chairman, Y Ekyimo Kikon, representing the beneficiaries and public of Pangti, informed that some irregularities were found in the payment under NREGA schemes for Pangti village under BDO Sanis Block, Wokha and consequently information was sought and received using the Right to Information.

It was revealed that for the year 2007-08, work order amounting to Rs.77,00,000 was recorded, out of which payment released amounted to only Rs,31,61,100 while a balance of Rs.45,38,900 remained to be paid. Similarly, for the year 2008-09, a work order amount of Rs.77,10,000 was recorded, out of which the payment released amounted to Rs.46,11,800 while a balance of Rs.30,98,200 remained to be paid. The total balance amount yet to be paid for the two years was recorded as Rs.76,37,100.

In this connection, the letter to the Director informed that the beneficiaries and the public of Pangti village, in a meeting held on May 31 last under the adhoc chairmanship of Y Ekyimo Kikon, Member CEC, NPF Nagaland, resolved that the matter would be intimated to the concerned higher authority to release the balance amount of Rs.76,37,100 for the two years at the earliest. It was also resolved that if the balance amount was not released by the department concerned within 20 days from the receipt of the letter, the beneficiaries and the public would take any course of action, including strike, to register their protest till the full payment is received, the letter stated.

The adhoc chairman has therefore requested the concerned authority to intervene in the matter in order to resolve the issue and facilitate the early release of the balance amount of Rs.76,37,100 for the two years for the benefit of the beneficiaries and the public and in the interest of public order and peace. It may be mentioned that copies of the work orders and statement of the payments released were also appended for reference.
