In pursuance to earlier notifications, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) will start imposing “parking tax” along main roads and streets of the commercial hub with effect from Wednesday, July 1. Convenor of the municipal’s Traffic Control Cell, G Kits, and Toll & Fees in-charge, Simon Yepthomi, informed that parking tax of Rs. 5 and Rs. 2 will be levied by the municipal council on four wheelers and two wheelers respectively. The tax would be levied on the main arteries of Dimapur including Church Road, Circular Road, GS Road, MP Road, Dhobinalla Road, New Market, Haji Park and Hongkong Market.
Since the “parking tax” is the first of its kind to be introduced in the state, there will be no hourly charge but a vehicle can park in the allotted lot from 8 am till 7 pm, with single payment of either Rs. 5 or Rs. 2, the DMC members said. It was also clarified that the public will have to pay only once in a day. However the receipt will have to be kept properly and produced when demanded. The members also informed that parking attendants with uniforms (T-shirts and caps) will be assigned in all parking lots to streamline the flow of traffic and aid parking.
