Patton asseses border situation

DIMAPUR, MARCH 26(MExN): Against the backdrop of recent unrest in the Assam-Nagaland border in the Dimapur-Karbi Anglong belt, Nagaland minister for Forest and Border Affairs, Y Patton, on Wednesday visited the border villages to assess the law and order situation. The border areas have recently witnessed incidents of violence, with reports of encroachment from both the Assam and Nagaland side.

The Minister, accompanied by officials from state Border Affairs, Forest department, police and Dimapur district administration, visited border Naga villages including Indisen, Dikhoi, Rilan, where reports of encroachment had emerged recently.

After inspecting the areas, the Minister appealed to villagers along the Assam-Nagaland border to maintain “status quo,” since the case of border dispute is in the Supreme Court. The hearing is likely to be held in the month of July.

Among others, Joint Secretary for Border Affairs, A Robin Lotha; Under Secretary, Border Affairs, Temsuwati Longkumer; DIG (Border), Bendang Lemtur; Chief Wildlife Warden, SP Tripathi; DFO Dimapur, YM Jami, DC Dimapur, Hushili Sema and SP Dimapur, VZ Angami, accompanied the Forest minister.
