Patton for conservation of forests and wildlife

DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): A meeting of the officers of the Forest Department with the Forest Minister was organised at the Conference Hall, office of the PCCF, Nagaland. The meeting was attended by the senior officer of the PCCF office, officers from the Wildlife wing, and representatives from the secretariat and all the Divisional Forest Officers. 

The interaction meeting was chaired by Dr. C. L. Goel, IFS PCCF, Nagaland and Head of Forest Force. Dr. C. L. Goel, IFS in his welcome address profusely congratulated Y. Patton upon taking over as Cabinet Minister for Forests and Environment. He appraised the Minister about the organisational structure of the department and nature of works being executed. 

Addressing the gathering Y. Patton, Minister for Forests, Ecology, Environment and Wildlife sought cooperation from the officers and staff of the department for rendering public service with efficiency. Stressing on the need for a secure and healthy environment for the comprehensive development of the state, he called upon all to work relentlessly for protection and conservation of Forest and Wildlife in Nagaland. 

Citing a significant declaration made the Chief Minister, Neiphu Rio to impose strict ban on serving wild meat at “public functions”, Patton asked the department officers to bring out suitable notifications to ban hunting and destruction of wild flora and fauna. 

He also said that a simple, sensible approach in dealing with the immediate environment would go a long way in dealing with complex phenomenon like Climate Change and Global Warming. Highlighting the role of Forest Department in ensuring a clean and safe environment, Patton called for higher degree of transparency and punctuality amongst the department staff and officers so as to render their services efficiently and effectively. 

Various aspects related to management of forest resources and functioning of department were discussed in detail. I Panger Jamir, Additional PCCF (Development and Planning) proposed the vote of thanks and thanked the Minister for being able to spare his valuable time for the department.
