Pawar assures Nagaland more Agri special packages; FCI facilities called

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has assured that more special packages for Nagaland state in agriculture and its  allied sectors would be given. The assurances were given by the Union Minister to a delegation of Nationalist Congress Party members who called on Pawar at New Delhi on July 25.

The delegation of NCP state presidents of North Eastern states led by ex-Manipur Chief Minister and State NCP President Radha Binod Koijam called on the Union Minister and submitted a representation explaining various problems affecting the NE states region. The representation called for formulating a coordinated and collective effort in finding a solution to the problems, it was informed.    

NCP Nagaland State President Y Sulanthung H Lotha at the meeting submitted a separate representation in which he urged the Union Minister to arrange special packages for Nagaland in agriculture and allied sectors like Horticulture, fisheries animal husbandry and civil supplies. Nagaland NCP General Secretary Povotso Lohe informed that Pawar, responding to the representation, assured to arrange special packages according to the guidelines of the Agriculture Ministry.

The State Government would be requested to use the funds granted under the assured packages so as to maximize benefits out of the packages for people at grass-root level. The Union Minister was also urged to enhance yearly allocation of rice, wheat and sugar for the state of Nagaland. Further, the NCP called for expediting the construction of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown at Kohima and consider for early construction of an FCI Guest House at Dimapur. Pawar assured that these works would be taken up within this current financial year 2006-2007.
