Peace is of vital importance: NCD

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 18 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur today said it is of “vital importance to sustain peace in the land, in order to carry on normal progressive life and live at par with people of other nations.”

  A press note from the NCD informed that it has held several discussions on the issue of early Naga Solution with the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, DUCCF & GBs Union (Sadar) Dimapur.  

“We appreciate a wide range of courses taken by the Government of India in considering an early solution to the protracted Naga Political problem, particularly the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, and that ongoing talks and negotiation with the working group of the Naga National Political groups (NNPGs),” the NCD said in a press note.  

It pointed out that the Naga people have suffered for a long time. “It has been more than seven decades of conflict and several years of ceasefire and dialogue, however, the problem and attempts to find a permanent solution has eluded us all these years. This cycle of disturbance has bred generations of disturbed young Nagas whose potentialities for positive life have been under mined which in turn has jeopardized their own future,” t he NCD lamented.

  It asserted that the voice and wishes of the Naga people including the mass based civil societies, church organizations, tribal Hohos and political parties is to have permanent peace and lasting solution to the Naga issue at the earliest.  

It therefore urged the Government of India to “honour the mandate of the Naga people and sincerely expedite the talks to offer a lasting solution acceptable to all sections of the Naga people at the earliest.”
