Mokokchung | August 21

Travelling the entire country without any money for 198 days till now, Ansh Mishra, popularly known as the ‘penniless hitchhiker,’ is in Nagaland. He wants to feel the culture, tradition, lifestyle, language and, most importantly, break the “Myths of Nagaland” and show the world the real Naga people.

Talking about his experience in Nagaland, Mishra, in an exclusive interview with The Morung Express, said that his four days in Kohima and Mokokchung have been exhilarating. “I am loving the food, the people, the hospitality, the weather and the environment,” Mishra said.

Complimenting the Nagas, Mishra said that people of Nagaland are very well spoken in English and education is better than states like Bihar and UP. He mentioned about the dressing sense of the Nagas saying that the Nagas dress better than the people of Mumbai and Delhi.

Ansh Mishra entered Kohima from Manipur and is currently in Mokokchung.

Talking about the roads in the North eastern states, Mishra said that he has experienced the worst road conditions making him fall off even from a moving bus.

“The reason for such bad road conditions is perhaps because we do not promote our own states. We cannot wait for the central government to promote us, therefore, we should start promoting oneself,” he said. “With much potential for tourism industry, I am sure North eastern states can generate a lot of revenue through it,” he added.

Talking about the myth about Nagaland that there are head hunters and that the North eastern states are not safe, Mishra said that he may be the first guy to enter the North eastern states on foot and has been hitchhiking since July 16.

In his entire journey not a single person has threatened him nor abused him and he has been safe all along. “People should come to North east. Do not get swayed by the assumptions and rumours about the place,” was his message to the rest of the people of the country.

His message to the people, especially to those who love to travel, “Money is important in life, but it will not buy you happiness or relationships. Money should not be a barrier for your dreams to come true. Come out of the comfort zone and start walking towards your dreams.”

Ansh Mishra was welcomed to Mokokchung by the Trail Hounds Cycling Club Mokokchung and he will be hosted by Adang Jamir at the Woods, Yimchalu. He plans to visit Mon after his two days stay at Mokokchung and travel to Assam.

Ansh Mishra has already covered 19 states and 3 Union territories of India and Burma without any money.
