People stand united against IRB’s high-handedness

Dimapur, Sept 30 (MExN): Various Naga organizations have strongly condemned the   shooting of a  student, Lumtiplung Kamei,  by 11th IRB personnel on September 28.    

ANCSU: The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) today strongly condemned what it termed the barbaric act of IRB jawan Sheta Venehu, a constable. “It is very unfortunate to learn that the students’ community/innocent civilians are being harassed by the so-called elite forces who are meant to enforce law and order and most of all for the safety of the public. Also it is not the first incident where the innocent civilians are being tortured by the so-called protector of the public without any proper reasons,” ANCSU president Chichamo Kikon said in a release. The union while appreciating the steps taken so far by the higher ups of the state police, strongly urged law enforcing agencies not to release the culprit on any ground but to initiate stern action befitting the heinous crime and also to see that necessary measures are taken to prevent reoccurrence of such unfortunate incidents in the near future. The union also strongly appealed to the students’ community to restrain themselves from taking part in any matter ‘which leads to misunderstandings and arguments among our own brothers.’ The ANCSU also extended its solidarity and heartfelt sympathy to the victim Lumtiplung Kamei, his family members and all the innocent civilians  involved during the incident.

Rongmei Council: The Rogmei Council Nagaland also expressed pain and shock over the shooting of Lumtiplung Kamei. The Council expressed strong disapproval at the inhuman act and has appealed to the State Government to take appropriate action against the perpetrator. “Since Nagaland is crying for peace and reconciliation, the Council requests the Government to abolish for the sake peace and tranquility to let the human survive peacefully” stated James Akham, President and Angam Kamei, Joint secretary. The Council added further that “a compensation should be given to the victim’s family and the Council wished the boy a speedy recovery”. The council has demanded  benefiting punishment against the erring IRB personnel.

AZSU AMN: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union Assam, Manipur & Nagaland (AZSU AMN) has strongly condemned what was implied as a  senseless act committed by the IRB jawan on September 28 at Kohima. The union expressed shock that the law-enforcers have started taking the law in their own hands when they are actually supposed  to protect the lives of innocent citizens. The union has appealed to the concern authority to punish the IRB personnel responsible for the shooting according to the law. The union further appealed the authority concern to compensate the victim. “Failing which the union shall not remain silent spectators” warned the AZU through its Vice President, Aching and Assistant General Secretary, N Kompoing

RYCD: The Rongmai Youth Club, Dimapur,  also expressed strong resentment at the shooting of Lumtiplung Kamei by the 11 IRB personnel. In a note of condemnation issued by its General Secretary, the Rongmai Youth Club slammed the highhandedness of the 11 IRB personnel ‘who are supposedly the guardian of the society’. The RYCD also requested the concern authority to compensate the victim and punish the erring personnel. The club also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured victim.

RCD: The Rongmai Community Dimapur, expressed shock and strongly condemned the ‘barbaric act’ committed by the 11 IRB personnel on Lumtiplung Kamei. A release stated that such an act committed by the IRB was  ‘uncalled for and should be nipped at the bud’. The union also conveyed its deepest sympathy to the victim and further appealed to the concerned authourity to take ‘necessary befitting actions against the erring personnel’ in the interest of justice and security to the people.
