‘People will decide leadership’

Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): Allying fears presumably the prospect of a potential leadership issue in the event of real unification, the NSCN-K has assured that leadership shall be decided by the people themselves. The NSCN-K was responding to certain statements stated to have been made in the print media by Thangal, Maran and Chandel communities over the ongoing unity and reconciliation process for the warring Naga underground groups.

A response issued by the outfit through its MIP ‘secretary’ explained that so far “the GPRN/NSCN” has not mentioned the name of any leader or leaders for leadership. “The NSCN is zealously pursuing the unity and reconciliation among Naga groups to stop bloodshed among brothers. The leadership will be decided by the people concerned in due course of time if unity comes…” The outfit, however, pointed out that it is too early for now to talk of “such sensitive issues at the present situation.”

Claiming that members of Thangal, Maram and Chandel “tribals” do not desire peace and unity, the underground outfit advised against ‘creating trouble.’ “If anyone wants to write or do something, it should not be according to the whims and wishes of a particular leader but it should be well-thought of decision” the NSCN-K condescended.

Stating that peace and reconciliation should ‘emanate’ from one’s “mind” the NSCN-K reminded of their origin in goodwill and “sense of responsibility.” The outfit said it forces no one for peace and unity. “If anyone does not want peace, then we can’t help. The matter rests there” the NSCN-K added.
