Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): Contractors and suppliers of Peren district have demanded that the state government give contract works to local and qualified contractors from Peren. Those contractors from outside Peren are leaving many important works half-done after full payments have been released, the Peren District Contractors & Suppliers Union stated in a memorandum addressed to the chief minister.
The new district headquarter is unable to function early because of major works being left incomplete and half-done, the union reminded the government. The union has assured that if the works are given to contractors of Peren, they will ‘maintain’ quality control.
The union said there are a good number of government-registered class-I class-II and class-III contractors. ‘However…to our dismay most of the major works have been awarded to contractors coming from other districts. Some of the important works and programmes have been left half-done and deserted the work after having released final payment,” the union stated in the memorandum. The union cited the examples of the PWD road Dimapur-Kopanala-Jalukie-Peren road, Jalukie-Athibung road and construction of government building in the new district header quarter among others.
The union said that ‘early functioning of the new headquarter is delayed due to non-completion of government buildings in the framed time.’ “The community people suffer most when road communication is not properly constructed. The hardship is multiple due to poor road communication because it affects transportation charges, time, travel, road safety and most of all it causes immense physical hardship,” the union explained.
The Peren union requests the chief minister to instruct all the department heads to pay attention to the contractors’ appeal and award to them the work and supply contracts ‘to serve our people and fulfill the programme of the government.”
