Peren, November 28 (MExN): With the aim to raise awareness about the importance of new born care for child survival and development using existing service delivery platforms to create community awareness for healthy newborn care practices through convergence of frontline functionaries led by ANMs, ASHAs and AWWs under Home based New Born Care (HBNC) Program, the Medical Department Peren District successfully conducted the weeklong activities from November 15 to 21.
Pezanguno Celine Secü, District Media Officer, CMO Office Peren in a press release stated that during the new born week, the community awareness activity towards promotion of healthy newborn care practices at the household level was the focal point. The ASHAs, ANMs and AWW visited all the newborn in their respective villages and health units and all newborn were screened for birth defects at health facilities where deliveries are taking place.
As their normal routine ASHAs carried out the HBNC focussing on Home delivery, low birth weight, sick new born, young child with developmental delays, any illness, defects, malnutrition, disabilities, women with maternal complications, families in hard to reach areas, workers in unorganised, informal sectors, migrants, destitute, slum dwellers, disabled etc. And also houses where they find it difficult to counsel the families for care seeking, adoption of health practices and gender discrimination.
