Peren, March 4 (MExN): District Health Society, Peren observed World Hearing Day under the theme ‘to hear for life, listen with care!’ at GPS Sector C, Jalukie town, Peren on March 3.
Speaking on the occasion as resource person, Dr Y Renbonthung Lotha, SMO, Nodal Officer, NPPCD said that using of headphones for a long time/loud music damages eardrums and lose of hearing mentally affects a person. He advised the students not to put pencils/rubber pieces in the ears. “If there is watery ear discharge in the ear it means ear infection and must get treated immediately by ENT doctor,” he stated.
Dr Renbonthung told the students to speak to parents or teachers whenever it’s difficult to hear. He also advised the students to avoid swimming in dirty waters which will lead to ear infection if the water goes inside the ear. He further stated to use proper ear cleaner to clean the ear and told the teachers to identify and guide those children who is unable to hear properly and inform their parents.
He informed that participants can download mobile App ‘HearWHO’ and test ourself at home and we can send the reports from that app to any ENT specialist doctor if needed.
Dr Lanuakum, Dy CMO, in his short speech encouraged the students that they should check their hearing from time to time and raise awareness about the importance of hearing. He said, “Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing out on certain sounds and words. Checking one’s hearing would be the first step towards addressing the issue.” He also motivated them to check their hearing regularly and practice safe listening and allow health workers to check the hearing status of people in their communities.
CMO Office Peren District Media Officer, Shekho Sophie in a press release stated that altogether, 70 participants were screened for free hearing check up and free IEC materials were also distributed. Dr Mariplaseng MO, RBSK chaired the programme. Head Teacher, GPS Sector C said the welcome address and Imrakokla, RBSK Coordinator gave the vote of thanks.
