PEREN, MAY 15 (MExN): The Drugs Control Administration under the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, conducted an orientation-cum-awareness programme for pharmacies of Peren district at the Rehangki Conference Hall, Jalukie Town.
The programme aimed to educate pharmacy owners and staff on key regulations governing the pharmaceutical sector. T Zubemo Kikon, Drug Control Officer, Dimapur, served as the resource person and delivered a detailed presentation on the Pharmacy Act, 1948; Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985; Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940; and the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
Kikon stressed the importance of proper record-keeping, safe disposal of expired medicines, and correct storage of pharmaceutical products. He further emphasized that narcotic and psychotropic substances must only be sold on prescription by a registered medical practitioner.
Raising concern over the misuse and abuse of certain drugs in Peren district, Kikon urged all pharmacies to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines and warned of penalties for violations under the relevant Acts.
Haigin Mpom, president of the Peren District Pharmacy Union, expressed gratitude to the department for organizing the programme, noting that it would help pharmacies operate more responsibly and in compliance with the law.
