Peren Lead farmers trained on organic cultivation of vegetables

Peren, July 28 (MExN): North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) in collaboration with ATMA Peren organized two-day farmers’ training and demonstration for Lead farmers at Hotel Tamzaipa, Jalukie Town on July 26 and 27. It was attended by 26 farmers from 26 villages of all the four blocks of Peren district – Jalukie, Peren, Tening and Ahthibung.  

The attendees were trained on organic cultivation practices of vegetables, namely cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, tree tomato (Tomarillo), French beans and radish, according to a press release received here.  

Besides package of practices of vegetables, resource person Akam Zeliang, Deputy Project Director, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Peren spoke on organic pest and disease management.  

The farmers were trained to prepare Neem based insecticide, seeds and sapling treatment with bio agents like Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillium and Phosphotika and fungicide by plants extracts.  

Meanwhile, Ruvile Kuotsu, DPM, NERLP highlighted the importance of vegetable farming and encouraged the farmers to be serious in vegetables farming as it is the backbone of family income for almost all the rural people. He also briefed on the importance of chain marketing linkage and duties and responsibilities of Lead farmer.  

Chaired by Amos Pauzerang Newme, Coordinator, Livelihood and Rural Marketing from NERLP, the training concluded with feedback of farmers from all the four blocks.
