Dimapur, October 31 (MExN): People’s Forum for Peace (PFP) Nagaland under the aegis of Peace Channel organised an inter-religious and ecumenical prayer meet at NEISSR hall, Dimapur on October 30 to “pray for and discuss the current political situation about the ongoing Indo-Naga Peace talks in the hope for a fruitful and positive solution”.

A press release from Peace Channel stated that Vitono Haralu, Project Coordinator of Peace Channel who chaired the programme said “Often in a conflict situation there is always a debate whether it is better to do the right thing for the wrong motive or the wrong thing for the right motive. Creating answers to social problems requires at least three things radical - self honesty, divine inspiration and team work.

Rev A Taku Longkumer, Chairman of PFP Nagaland, talked about the need for God’s intervention in order to achieve peace and harmony in the state. Rev RP Murry, Chairman of Dimapur Christian Forum said “It is our duty and responsibility to unite together and pray together with people of different religious beliefs so that our prayers will be heard and answered and peace prevails in the state.”

Alok Pareek from the Hindu community talked about seeking peace in positivity and talked to bring an impact among our community. Muzaibur Rehman representative of the Muslim community said we all need peace and the talk which has been going on for many years is not the problem only for Nagaland or Nagas but it is a problem of all the people living in the community.

Ajay Sethi, General Secretary, PFP Nagaland and representative of Jain community said “we all believe in peace and that is why we are all gathering to pray for our nation. We all believe in God and with this hope we came together to seek God’s mercy upon us.” Rajesh Chowdhary from the Buddhist community said “only when we talk and practice peace there will be ultimate peace in the society.”

Chenithung Humtsoe representative of NGOs Forum said that Nagaland is a diverse state, people coming together from different states and regions making us all to seek peace for all as a family. Caroline Leisan from Catholic Women Association said that peace begins from home and in our kitchen first.

Dr Deben Sharma, Asst Professor of NEISSR stated that the Indo-Naga issue has been a conflict going on for over 2 decades and it has brought violent conflicts and has an adverse impact on the society especially to the women, children, environment and region. “We stand in solidarity with the people of the region and hoped for a holistic peace in the coming days.”

Dr Fr CP Anto, Director and Principal of Peace Channel and NEISSR in conclusion “stressed on the mission of making Nagaland the happiest and most peaceful state by 2030.”
