PHEK, FEBRUARY 28 (MExN): The Science Club of Phek Government College hosted a program to mark National Science Day on February 28 with the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for Viksit Bharat.”
The event was held at the college premises to honor the discovery of the “Raman Effect” by Dr CV Raman in 1928, a breakthrough that significantly contributed to the development of science and technology in India.
National Science Day is observed across India each year on February 28 to celebrate Dr. Raman’s achievement and promote scientific thinking, innovation, and technological advancement.
Sabir Chetri, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, spoke about the theme of the event, highlighting India's commitment to fostering youth potential in science and innovation. He emphasized that global leadership in science requires consistent effort, a problem-solving mindset, and curiosity.
Chetri also discussed the importance of continuous innovation in achieving the vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India), which he noted is crucial for driving economic growth, improving healthcare, and addressing global challenges such as climate change and public health crises.
Chetri further pointed out government initiatives like the National Education Policy (NEP), which promotes interdisciplinary courses, and programs such as INSPIRE that support young talent in science and research. He also highlighted opportunities for students, such as paid internships at institutions like DRDO, ISRO, and ICMR, which provide valuable platforms for pursuing higher education and contributing to India’s scientific goals.
The program was chaired by Dr Temjennaro Jamir, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, while Mughato K. Kiba, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany and Convenor of the Science Club, delivered the welcome address.
