
Mokokchung, April 12 (MExN): The Post Graduate Students’ Union, Lumami of Nagaland University has highlighted various grievances being faced at the University Headquarters at Lumami to Minister of Youth Resource & Sports, Merentoshi R Jamir who was the chief guest at the inaugural day of the XV Varsity Annual Sports Meet on Wednesday, April 10.
The PGSU (L) President, Maongtoshi and General Secretary Botovi Yepthomi, while highlighting some of the grievances being faced by the post graduate students at Lumami, stated that Nagaland University which was established in 1994 for imparting ‘higher quality education in Nagaland’ is still facing shortage of basic necessities even after nineteen years since its inception.
“We the PGSU (L) feels that though NU is being sponsored by the central but some where the state government should also have to look into the matters, since NU is the only and the top most intellectual institution in our State,” the two PGSU (L) leaders stated in the representation.
In this regard, the PGSU (L) representation listed out the some of the grievances being faced by the post graduate students at Lumami like ‘improper road condition, lack of water supply, improper solar system and power shortage, improper internet, lack of health facilities and improper library. The PGSU (L) also pointed out that there is no proper football ground or indoor stadium even stated that the fund allocation is not sufficient to meet the requirement for games and sports and extracurricular activities.
Interestingly, the PGSU (L) also stated that it doesn’t have a “particular office”. “We are also lacking behind many electronics equipments for our office. Being in the outskirt we are facing many difficulties in running our office especially during our extracurricular activities,” the PGSU (L) officials stated.
In this connection, the PGSU (L), expressed hope in the ‘young and dynamic leadership’ of Minister Merentoshi R Jamir and ‘prayed’ that the university may slowly and steadily prosper under his leadership for ‘educational upliftment’ in the future.
“We feel privilege to share with you, so that there may be drastic changes with the changes of time in terms of quality education, extracurricular activities and infrastructural Development as compared to other University,” the PGSU (L) officials expressed to the Minister.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Minister for Youth Resources & Sports assured to take up the matter with the government and do whatever can be done for the welfare of the students.
