Pharmacy sells expired medicines to patient in Kohima

Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): Following report of medicinal anomalies at a pharmacy at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has detected certain brand of expired medicines sold to an in-patient of the hospital by the pharmacy.   A press release from AYO informed that the authorities concerned owned up to their “negligence and lapse” on the matter. The authorities also agreed to extend medical and related cover up insurances to the patient in case future drug related reactions arises out of the medication. A discussion between AYO and NHAK also resolved to immediately cancel and nullify the Pharmaceutical Trading License of the pharmacy. The management authority reiterated to be extra vigilant that such acts are not committed in future and assured of their best selfless service for the society, AYO stated.

  In this context, the organisation impressed upon the members of the medical fraternity to carefully cross check the manufactured and expiry dates of all medicines before administering any medicines to their patients. It also asked the general public to be cautious on such matters, and to always insist on specific prescriptions on medicines as prescribed and referred to by the treating doctor as the town is now flooded with numerous brands and options of medicines, both genuine and otherwise.
