
Phek, November 7 (MExN): A legal awareness programme was organised by the Phek District Legal Service Authority (PDLSA) at Panchayat Hall, Kutsapo village, Phek. The programme was organised with the purpose of implementing legal services programme at the grassroot level targeting common man in village area and circle under the supervision of PDLSA and Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (Department of Justice & Law).
Ajongba Imchen, Civil Judge and Secretary of PDLSA as resource person spoke on the subject of Nagaland Villages and Area Councils Act, 1978, explaining the judicial and administrative powers vested on the village Council body and salient features of the functioning, duties and regulation of Village Councils. Imchen also introduced the Victim Compensation Scheme framed by the State Government for granting relief to victim of crimes and spoke on the concept and benefit of Lok Adalat, Fundamental Rights and Duties.
Resource person Chitho, Advocate spoke on the topics village council Act and principles of gender equality. Mamang Singson, Retainer Lawyer, PDLSA highlighted various Government schemes on social welfare and presented the Seven Schemes of National Legal Services Authority which are meant to ensure the Government schemes entitled for the marginalized actually reach them. The legal services institution will facilitate access to such schemes for the marginalized and weak sections of people, he added.
Vethothi Vero, Panel Lawyer, PDLSA spoke on the topic Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights – NALSA Scheme, RTI, consumer protection Act, Lok Adalat, prohibition of smoking Act 2003 & wildlife protection Act. Rukuvolu Vero, Panel Lawyer spoke on domestic violence Act and child friendly legal service of NALSA Scheme.
A press release received here stated that the legal awareness programme was attended by village council members, church body members, women representative and youth of Kutsapo village.
