A school bus carrying around 22 students and teachers met with a fatal accident on the Chare-Mokokchung road on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of the bus handyman and injuries to several students, according to reports.
The bus, which was transporting students of Christ King School, Angangba village in Longkhim of Tuensang district, was heading to Mopungchuket village in Mokokchung district for a study tour when it crashed near a bridge along the route around 6:30 am.
“The bus met with an accident near a bridge along the Chare-Mokokchung road resulting in the loss of one life and injuries to several others,” the Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society stated in a condolence message.
“We mourn the tragic loss of the bus attendant and extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved family and loved ones,” it conveyed. The society prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and offered solidarity with the school and the affected families.
An update from the Sangtam Union, Mokokchung reported that the injured were immediately rushed to Lenjem Hospital, Mokokchung, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Officials of the union visited the injured at the hospital, it added.
