Phek observes Gram Sabha Samvad 

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): The nationwide Gram Sabha Samvad on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Gandhi Jayanti was held at Phek on October 2. 

The sabha was attended by the Village Council Chairpersons, WATSAN and Swachhagrahis. Altogether 25 villages under Phek block attended. The sabha was organized by PHED Phek division. At Pfutsero, the sabha was organized by Implementation Support Agency (ISA) Kalos Society Pfutsero, where a total of 33 villages under Pfutsero block were covered. Altogether, 58 villages under under Phek district participated in the event.

The event was chaired by Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, DWSM, Abigail Ritse, SDO, PHED Phek. Er Imkong Jamir spoke on the objectives of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and said that it was based on community approach towards individual household pipe water connection. He also encouraged the community to contribute 5% towards the mission as per JJM guidelines. He further stressed on the objectives of ODF Plus and elaborated on methods and steps involved in tackling solid and liquid waste management. 

District Coordinator, DWSM Phek, Kutulu Vero spokes on Plastic Waste Management, its impact on the environment and human health. She urged the community leaders to put efforts to work out ways and means to tackle plastic menace to reduce plastic pollution. 

The sabha also included training on Field Testing Kit (FTK) and usage of mobile application for WATSAN and swachhagrahis by Chemist, DWSM, Kethonu Theyo. The Sabha ended with pledge and signature of the resolution on ban of Single Use Plastic (SUP) by all the village chairmen.
