Our Correspondent Phek | October 11 The six-day long 14th Phek Town Inter Colony Tournament 2016 made a colourful start at Phek Town on October 10 under the aegis of Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS). Gracing the inaugural function as the guest, MLA Kuzholiizo (Azo) Nienu said that sports brings unity, peace and strengthen brotherhood. In this, he called upon the people to take this inter colony tournament as an opportune platform to maintain the feeling of oneness and brotherhood. Referring to the tournament theme “Branded for change,” Azo maintained that the first and foremost thing everyone must do is to change the mindset of oneself so that the essence of change would become visible. Also stressing on the need to practice truthfulness in every approach, he called upon the people to do away with ism, propaganda and criticism, which spoil the environment of peaceful co-existence. Azo also called upon the people to reason together, become friendlier and help one another in every possible way. He also urged upon the sportspersons to maintain sporting spirit throughout the tournament. Further, he challenged the sportspersons not to take the tournament as an end in itself but to carry forward and bring laurels to the community in different levels. Earlier, PTYS President Neihite Akami delivered the welcome address while the administering of oath to the participating teams was done by PTYS Games & Sports Secretary Kozote Akami. Pusazo Luruo, Chairman Nagaland Bee Keeping & Honey Mission, Chivotso Nienu, President NPF Phek division, Salie Khesoh, President Phek District Veterans’ Football Association, Chiekhutso ex-MLA, Veduvo Rhakho, ex- president Chakhesang Students’ Union and several other dignitaries also attended the inaugural function. Altogether, 11 colonies are taking part in the tournament in the discipline of football and volleyball. Meanwhile, Phek Deputy Commissioner Murohu Chotso will grace the closing ceremony as guest of honour on October 15.
