
Phek, June 10 (MExN): In commemoration of World Environment Day, Green Sunday was observed in Phek Town under the theme “Fight against the illegal trade in wild life” on June 5. The programme was organised by Phek Forest Division in collaboration with the District Administration and cooperation of the churches in Phek Town.
The Forest Department aimed to sensitize the public through the wider appeal of the churches with regard to wildlife conservation, according to a press release.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Phek, Rongsenlemla Imchen (IFS) highlighted the importance of churches’ role to spread the awareness for wildlife conservation from biblical perspective. Pastor of PTBC, Thepuchiyi Khesoh spoke on preservation of God’s creation based on the Bible.
Other speakers on the occasion were DC Phek, Muroho Chotso, Judicial Magistrate, Ajong Imchen, and DAO Phek, Hewoto Yepthomi. Eco Clubs of various schools presented the song “Heal the world” with a message dedicating the saplings planted on the occasion to girl children in Phek district.
The programme was attended by local functionaries, Town Councils, schools, NGOs, public leaders, students’ union, administrative officers and host of district officials
