Kohima, May 26 (MExN): The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) in partnership with the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) organized a pig health camp in 14 villages in Phek district from May 16-19. The Health Camp was inaugurated by Dr.W Mero, Chief Veterinary Officer, Phek District. Dr. W Mero in his speech highlighted the importance of vaccination in animals and the value of medicine aid for animals.
During the four days animal health camp a total of 225 pigs were vaccinated against Classical Swine Fever, a fatal swine epidemic responsible for huge economic losses for pig farmers in the state.
During the health camp it was observed that majority of the ailments of the pigs were related to poor sanitation condition of pig sties. The animal health camp was organized with support from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (V&AH), GoN and the Tata Trusts.
The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (V&AH), GoN has signed a 5 years MoU in 2015 for promoting piggery as a household level enterprise covering 10,000 households in selected blocks in Tuensang, Kiphire and Phek district.
