DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 28 (MExN): Community Development Foundation (CDF), Dimapur, under the aegis of NEDFi corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative project launched the second phase of the piglet distribution at Toulazouma village on Friday.
The pig-rearing project sponsored by NEDFi is supervised and implemented by CDF for strengthening and augmentation of livelihood of farmers.
Managing director CDF, KH Henry, who chaired the programme presented the project status report since launching of the project in February 2013. Henry said the first phase of the project under which two piglets were distributed to each of the 26 beneficiaries have shown satisfactory results. Urging the villagers to fulfill the guidelines of the project, Henry said that if the villagers are sincere and dedicated in their approach, then they can attract more investment and sponsors.
NEDFi Dimapur branch manager, Debarshi Battacharya, said the objective of the project is mainly to provide alternative source of livelihood to the villagers apart from crop farming. He said if the three-year phase wise project is implemented successfully, then Toulazouma village would become a model village for pig rearing and breeding.
Two resources persons, Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, a subject matter specialist from ICAR, Nagaland Centre and Dr. Hiabe Zeliang, farm manager of the State Pig Breeding Centre, Medziphema, also gave shared their expertise and suggestions on successful pig farming. The resource persons highlighted on the need to conduct exposure trips for Toulazouma pig farmers so that they can learn about new technology on pig farming, improved housing system and feeding.
Earlier, Toulazouma village council chairman delivered welcome address. President of Framers’ Club, Toulazouma village, also spoke on the occasion.
For the second phase, another 26 beneficiaries have been identified. The second batch beneficiaries will get also two piglets each. Under the guidelines of the project, the piglets will be supplied by the first phase beneficiaries whose sows have already given birth.
In addition, NEDFi and CDF will sponsor six educated unemployed youths of the village to undergo training on pig health care at ICAR, Nagaland Centre.
