Plantation drive conducted in NERIM Challenge Academy Mangaldai

Mangaldai , August 27 (MExN): A plantation drive was conducted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Sector Headquarter Bezpara, Mangaldai in collaboration with NERIM Challenge Academy, Mangaldai at the college campus in Mangaldai, Prafulla Nagar on August 27.

The drive was conducted as an initiative to create awareness on the importance of trees on our existence, a press release from the college stated.

Highlighting that the NERIM Mangaldai campus has a vast campus covering an area of around 25 bighas, the college expressed optimism that the plantation drive would not only rejuvenate the environment but also beautify the campus and create a cleaner and greener space.

Principal of the college Dr K Kharkrang welcomed the whole team and felicitated the Chief guest C Keishing, Deputy Inspector General, SSB, Sector Headquarter, Bezpara, Mangaldai, with a gamosa.

The DIG spoke on the purpose of the plantation drive stating that all living beings depend on mother earth for all basic necessities and requirements. So, human beings should be the care taker of mother earth and connect to it by planting and nurturing the trees around us, he added.

He also made the teaching faculty and non teaching staff of the college aware of the effects of de-forestation, leading to human animal conflict, forest fires, global warming, flash flood, melting of glaciers leading to increase in sea level, etc.

Further, stressing that human beings should start working towards improving the environment by planting a tree individually wherever and whenever possible, he informed that, following the directive of the Central Government, the SSB team of Sector Headquarter-Bezpara has conducted several such plantation drives in and around Darrang district and that recently the same programme has been conducted at Mangaldai MaharishiVidya Mandir School as well.

The plantation drive at NERIM campus Mangaldai was conducted with maximum participation of all the staff and faculty who planted a sapling each in the campus. The programme ended with a note of gratitude from the Principal.
