A State Level Exhibition under the aegis of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) began on March 4 in Dimapur. The entrepreneurial fair, organised by the Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) at the Naga Shopping Arcade, will continue till March 13.

According to the NKVI, the objective of the exhibition is to expose and promote entrepreneurs engaged in rural industries, besides encouraging self-employment, economic self-reliance towards building a strong rural community spirit. Around 50 entrepreneurs from across the northeastern region will be participating in the exhibition for display & sale of their unique products.

At the inauguration programme, on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Tinojongshi Chang termed PMEGP-sponsored fair as a valuable exposure opportunity for entrepreneurs seeking to make a mark. Citing the limited job opportunities available in the government sector, he emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship and self-employment.

He pointed out the increased accessibility of loans for aspiring business owners compared to the past, stressing that the intended purpose of loans is to facilitate business development and contribute to economic growth. However, he expressed concern that too many individuals prioritize the subsidy aspect of loans over the fundamental goal of building a sustainable business, which ultimately undermines government efforts to cultivate a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

He further noted the absence of representatives from financial institutions, including banks, at the exhibition, stating that their presence would have been significantly beneficial.
