PMKSY-WDC culmination programme at Longleng

Longleng, August 17 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources Department, BS Nganland Phom today said that Nagas may be poor in other needs but they are rich and blessed with their ancestor land, and called upon farmers to utilize the God gifted land to boost rural economy for self-sufficiency. He was addressing at the culmination programme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC) erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) on August 16 at Auditorium, Yingli College, Longleng.  

Nganlang highlighted the completion of DPO office building in all 11 districts and enumerated various achievements and activities of the department during his tenure as Minister incharge. He informed the gathering that construction of new hospital for Longleng was approved by the Government and requested the district administration and the PPC to identify a suitable site for the hospital to commence the construction work at the earliest.  

Nganlang also released a book on the achievement of the project in Yongam and gave away the WDF Fund to the farmers.  

Secretary LRD, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Director LRD, Hoto Yeptho, DC Longleng, Y. Denngan Avennoho Phom also spoke during the programme. L. Lipok Imchen, WDTM shared his experiences and Dr. Kalito J. Sumi WDTM spoke on behalf of the stakeholders Angshei Phom, Yongam village and Yenjei Phom, VCC Yongam gave briefing.  

The PMKSY-WDC erstwhile IWMP which began three years ago in Longleng, has taken up major activities in the field of soil and water management, plantation, development of wastelands, forest regeneration, economic growth of the people living in rural areas through various on-farm and off-farm activities. The PMKSY-WDC also aims to facilitate accountability, supports stakeholder communication and helps in guiding the people to achieve sound economy and to build ecologically more vibrant village. Yongam village under Longleng district is the living example of the projects under LRD.
