PNF conducts study on HIV/AIDS Act

DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (MExN): The People in Need Foundation (PNF) organised a study of the HIV/AIDS (prevention and control) Act 2017 for the leaders of the Dimapur Positive Women  Association  (D+WA) at the Prodigals’ Home hall, Dimapur.

The Act spells out the purpose “for prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, to protect and secure rights of People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA), effective care, support and treatment of PLHA and to protect rights of health care providers & others”.
The participants were familiarised with terms like ‘capacity to consent,’ ‘informed consent,’ ‘significant risk,’ ‘discrimination,’ ‘protected person,’ ‘reasonable accommodation,’ apart from other features of the Act.

A press release from the PNF meanwhile expressed concern that till date there is no clarity on the appointment of Ombudsman in the State. “Nagaland, which is the third highest HIV prevalent state in India, has not appointed the single most important point person for this section of society,” the participants were informed.

The study was attended by office bearers of the association and senior staff of the PNF. The resource person was Joe Ngamkhuchung, Chairman of the PNF.
