Police detains 501 individuals, 300 vehicles curfew violators in Manipur

In the continue crackdown on curfew violators, police on Sunday detained as many as 501 individuals along with 300 vehicles, an official source said.

 

The curfew violators were produced before the concerned magistrates and released after they were fined. A total of Rs 37,200 collected from them, the source further said.

 

The whole state has been under curfew (restriction to the people moving out of their respective homes under sub-section 2 of section 144 of CrPC) since March 24, the day Central government announced 21-days of countrywide total lockdown to check spread of COVID-19.

 

The curfew is being imposed for an effective enforcement of the lockdown which the main objective is to maintain social distancing.

 

Meanwhile, a DIPR report said that PDS rice, to be distributed under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to several assembly constituencies (AC) of the State, for the month of April, 2020 continues to be lifted from several FCI godowns located in the State.

 

In Kakching district, 3037.70 quintal of rice under PMGKAY meant for Sugnu A/C (1409.50 quintal) and Hiyanglam A/C (1628.20 quintal) was lifted today. Apart from this 724.05 quintal and 620.70 quintal of rice under OMSS was also lifted for Sungu A/C and Hiyanglam A/C respectively.

 

Bishnupur district reported lifting of 1338.35 quintal of rice under PMGKAY and 366.15 quintal under OMSS both meant for Thanga A/C from Sangaiprou FCI godown.

 

In Thoubal district, 1358.60 quintal of rice under PMGKAY was lifted today and 472 quintal of rice under PMGKAY was also distributed to the beneficiaries of Wangkhem A/C.

 

A total of 4029 quintal of rice under OMSS was lifted, today, for several assembly constituencies of Imphal East district. The Assembly constituencies are Khundrakpam (653.10 quintal), Heingang (632.76 quintal), Khurai (474 quintal), Thongju (693.90 quintal), Keirao (733.35 quintal), Lamlai (424.35 quintal) and Wangkhei (417.54 quintal)

 

There was also report on lifting of rice under PMGKAY for different Assembly Constituencies of Imphal West on April 18, 2020 which includes 719.5 quintal for Thangmeiband, 462.41 quintal for Uripok, 139.52 quintal for Sagolband, 1512.99 quintal for Singjamei, 631.717 quintal for Patsoi, 560.38 quintal for Konthoujam, 278.84 quintal for Lamsang, 1217.06 quintal for Langthabal and 413.42 quintal for Mayang Imphal. On the same day, there was distribution of 322.05 quintal of rice under PMGKAY in the district.

In Ukhrul district, 1085.30 quintal of rice under PMGKAY meant for Chingai A/C was lifted on April 18, 2020.

 

                        Lifting and distribution of PDS rice under PMGJAY and Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) is being done following the State Government's initiative  to ensure that the people of the State are provided uninterrupted supply of food grains during ongoing lockdown in the State to contain outbreak of COVID-19, the report added.
