DIMAPUR, MARCH 30 (MExN): The Zunheboto Police raided a pharmacy in Dimapur on March 27, based on information obtained from a drug bust in Aghunato on March 23.
A press release from the Zunheboto Police informed that on March 23, a house was raided at Inavi Colony, Aghunato town and seized 730 Spasmo Proxyvon capsule, and 17 Cough Syrup bottles. Three persons were arrested during the raid, who the Zunheboto Police identified as Atoka Achumi (45), Atoba Kiho (38) and Nito Achumi (38).
None of the arrested persons were found to have any license/permit to sell the restricted medicines or any medical prescription for its usage, the police informed.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the Spasmo Proxyvon capsule & Codeine (Cough Syrup) bottles were sourced from a person in Dimapur who apparently ran a pharmacy and sold restricted drugs.
“Since the arrested persons were found to be carrying the prescribed drugs without any prescription by a doctor or a medical petitioner, there was reason to believe that the scheduled prescription drugs were being sold illegally in contravention of provision of law including the NDPS Act,” the police stated.
A non-bailable warrant of arrest & search warrant was obtained by the Zunheboto Police, and a search and arrest operation was carried out at Mahadev Pharma in Dimapur, which was identified as the “source of the drugs after interrogation of the accused persons.”
After the search operation on the identified premises, the alleged accused namely Manoj Barman was arrested and the searched premises (shop and godown) in Dimapur, were sealed to preserve the evidence.
Further investigation is being pursued to unveil the nexus in the instant case of drugs smuggling and obtaining further information about the origin and stocks of the scheduled drugs, the police added.
Meanwhile, the police have advised the public not to sell, purchase, transport or use restricted/ prescription drugs without advice from medical practitioners. It further cautioned pharamacists and chemists that prescription drugs should not be sold without medical advice as the same is a contravention of NDPS Act and other legal provision which may result in not only criminal action but also cancellation of the license.
It further informed the public that any information about persons involved in drugs trafficking or traffickers may be shared with Nagaland Police through its social media handles or by email or to any senior officers in the department. The name or photos or phone numbers of traffickers can be shared with police. The identity of informer will be safeguarded, it assured.
