Policies to empower youth, promote sports

Phek, February 25 (DIPR): Under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India the Nehru Yuva Kendra Phek launched National Youth Policy 2014 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan at the DPDB hall, Phek on February 24 with Deepali Masirkar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek and Tsuktimar, SDO (Civil) as Chief Guest and Chairman respectively.

In his keynote address Y. Laksman Singh, District Youth-Coordinator mentioned that the youth policy is a holistic vision for the youth of the country. The Policy will empower the youth to achieve their full potential and through them it will enable India find a rightful place in the community of Nations. All persons from 15-27 years which is 27.5% of the total population of the country will be benefited under the National Youth Policy. The policy will have a crucial role in creating: creating a productive workforce, develop a strong and healthy lifestyle, instill social values, facilitate participation and civic engagement with the active participation in politics and Governance and Support youth at risk and equitable opportunity for all.

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan is an attempt to promote sports by developing 6,500 sports complexes in every rural Blocks of the country, funds to provide for conducting competition at Block, District, State and National levels.

In her address to the youths, Deepali pointed out that India is going through a remarkable stage.  Each one of us will get benefit out of the youth policy. There is a clear cut budget for sports infrastructure and competitive items will be there at the Block, District, State and National levels. There will be self-defense training for women. The Nagaland youths are very talented in music and sport. Let us hope and pray that the policy will encourage our youth in all round development of their personality and promoting in social values.

Earlier, a youth rally was organized by NYK in Phek town where Longdiba L. Sangtam, EAC flagged off the rally with the officials of NYK. The youth club leaders, student leaders of Chakhesang Students Union, Mentor youth club leaders, NYCs and officials took part in the launching function.

Liasu Dukru, Accountant thanked all the officials and the youths for participating and joining in the launching function. She further sought the cooperation from the District Administration and all the stakeholders for successful implementation of the schemes in Phek district, Nagaland.
