Politics should not disturb social harmony: Nukhu

DIMAPUR, OCT 29 (MExN): North East Network (NEN) celebrated its first anniversary of NEN Resource Centre on October 28 at Chizami with well-wishers from Pfutsero, Chizami and neighbouring villages. Deo Nukhu, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Nagaland graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Marking the Anniversary Celebration, a weeklong programme of different events that include youth for peace through music, training on artificial flower making, bamboo craft, food processing/ bakery, film screenings and cultural extravaganza was flagged off.

Addressing the gathering, Nukhu lauded the initiative of the North East Network for social development through various activities taken up by NEN Resource Centre. Stressing the need to develop positive attitude towards each other, he urged the people not to let differences among party politics and religion disturb the social harmony and human relationships. He called on the people to promote transparency and accountability within our social mechanism, motivate and encourage young people towards innovative change. Nukhu also referred to the empowerment of women, which is the long-term objective of all these efforts which the state government is also committed to.

Ms Darilyn Syiem, NEN Shillong and Ms Vechulo-u Kanuo, Secretary, CWWS also spoke to the gathering. It was a surprising coincidence that both of them quoted a phrase from Proverbs: ‘The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul’. Darilyn termed the NEN Resource Center as an accomplishment of the Chizami community as a whole and that this achievement is an ongoing task involving the team working at the Center and the community. Darilyn also reiterated the objective of North East Network which is to ensure equality and respect among women and men. She quoted the words of Aun Sun Suu Kyi in this connection: “In societies where men are truly confident of their own worth, women are not merely tolerated but valued”. In conclusion Darilyn voiced out her recent vision. She dreams ‘to see a network of Resource Centres in the North East Region.

In her very encouraging speech Ms. Kanuo called upon the people to build up self-esteem, motivation, strong passion, commitment, determination and unity which are basic to any kind of developmental initiative. Other highlights of the day include songs, musical piece, folk melodies and choreography presentations.

It may be mentioned that NEN Resource Centre came into being with the aim of providing a positive thinking space for the people to bring tangible social change in Chizami and beyond, stated Seno Tsuhah, Coordinator, NEN Resource Centre, Chizami, District Phek.
