Poll campaigns intensify in Manipur

Political parties in Manipur, particularly the ruling BJP and the main opposition Congress, have intensified their election campaigns in the constituencies where the parties fielding their candidates.

Five Assembly constituencies spread over four districts of the state will go to by-polls on November 7, for which campaigning is picking up in the said constituencies.  

Both the BJP and Congress have fielded four candidates each and back independent candidates in the remaining constituencies.
The BJP has fielded no candidate in the Lilong assembly constituency of Thoubal district but supports ex-MLA Md Abdul Nasir who filed his nomination paper as an independent candidate on Monday.

The ruling party’s leaders including chief minister N Biren Singh are actively taking part in the party election rallies.

Like the BJP, the Congress did not field its candidate in Singhat Assembly constituency of Churachandpur district. The party, however, announced that it would support a candidate of like minded and secular party.

Party leaders like former chief minister O Ibobi Singh and AICC’s CWC member Gaikhangam are taking part actively in the election campaigns.

National People’s Party (NPP), a partner of the BJP in the coalition government, is picking up its election campaigns in the constituencies where the party has fielded candidates.
