Poshan Pakhwada conducted under Kohima Tribal block

Kohima, April 3 (MExN): The office of the Child Development Project Officer Kohima (Tribal) celebrated Poshan Pakhwada at Sakhabama on March 31. Around 70 participants attended the event including pregnant women, lactating women, children and adolescent girls.

Jolayi Nienu, CDPO Kohima (Tribal) urged the village council to supply sufficient amount of safe drinking water to its beneficiaries in the Anganwadi Centres while Lorhele Mekro, Supervisor spoke on the importance of nutrition in pregnant and lactating women and urged them to avail the supplementary foods that are being distributed by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme every month.

Meanwhile, Tepeleto Victor Thol, District Project Assistant, POSHAN urged the Anganwadi workers to actively participate in all the Poshan activities that are being organized at block and district levels.

Another programme was organized in Thizama on April 1, in relation to Poshan Pakhwada with 60 participants in attendance. Kevineizo Zumu, Supervisor highlighted on crucial schemes for pregnant women such as Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana ( PMMVY) which is a centrally sponsored DBT scheme, urging the participants to avail the scheme.

Zumu strengthened awareness on how to identify and manage Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) to the participants while Mhaleno Visa, Block Coordinator POSHAN shared on healthy cooking methods for a healthy community.

Visa also urged the participants to choose healthy cooking methods which are equally important as choosing a healthy ingredient as focussing on healthy cooking methods helps food to retain more nutrients and introduces fewer toxins.

Along with the block activities, there are regular activities that are being conducted at village level and Anganwadi Centres under Kohima Tribal. Some of the key action plan includes Mothers Group Meeting, Home visit, Poshan Panchayat and Community based events. The closing ceremony of Poshan Pakhwada will be conducted on April 4 at the district level.
