Poumai women meet in Ngari Lishang

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): The Poumai Naotoumai Me (PNM) has successfully conducted its 6th General Conference Cum Cultural programme from February 9-12, 2011 at Ngari Lishang Village. D.S. Poonia, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur and Ms. Nidhi Kesarwani, IAS Deputy Commissioner Senapati and Louniirii, Social Worker, have grace the Inaugural function as chief guest, guest of honour and presiding officer respectively.
Ngari Lishang, a Poumai village situated in the extreme north east of Senapati District is connected by a “motorable road very recently”. P.Delilah Pao, the president of the Poumai Naotumai Me mentioned that “PNM was established in the year 1987 when the people of our region experience untold hardship as a consequence of the much hated “Operation Bluebird” where the rights of our people including that of the womenfolk was trample brazenly. Since then we have journeyed tirelessly to achieve the goals of our organisation which include securing Gender equality”. She further mention that most of the Poumai village are located in remotest area of the state and appeals to those responsible government official to take extra responsibility and ensure that the rural people get their due share of the development funds., A press note received here stated.
It also mentioned that the chief guest of the programme congratulated the organiser and mention that the receptions accord to him is marvellous and describe the women of the area are warm, pure and so truthful. With regard to the request of the PNM, for financial assistance for an office building and the road construction of Ngari Lishang to Thiwa Village, he assured that it would be look into it and extend timely help. The guest of honour also ask the Poumai Women to make use of the various schemes the Government has for them and she will do her utmost to ensure that the deserving women get their share.
The three days programme concluded after witnessing a series of events, which include cultural dance, folk song, folk tale, talent show and Mrs. Poumai Contest. Mrs.Christina, of Saranamai Village, walk away with prestigious Mrs. Poumai title. Phaibung Khullen, won the folk dance competition.
