Pre-monsoon showers likely to continue in Nagaland till March 17

Dimapur, March 15 (MExN): With the pre-monsoon season setting in, temperatures in Nagaland are gradually rising. Over the last 30 days, the Soil and Water Conservation Department has documented an average maximum temperature of 23.0ºC, while the minimum temperature hovered at 12.9ºC. The relative humidity was at 65.5% and the state received a total rainfall of 99.4mm, according to a press release from State Nodal Officer for Meteorology Rongsenlemzung, received here on Wednesday.

Citing the National Weather Forecasting Centre (IMD), the release informed that scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur in Northeast India from March 15 to 17. Any rainfall in this period can be attributed as pre-monsoon showers, it added.

During the last 30-day period, the meteorological observatory at Jalukie recorded the highest maximum temperature with 35.0ºC on March 15 and Zunheboto recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 5.8ºC on February 20. Highest rainfall of 34.0 mm was recorded from Sechu Observatory on March 15, the release stated.

In this connection, it cited an advisory from the Gramin Krishi Mausem Sewa District Level Agromet for the last 30 days and advised farmers to practice mulching for moisture conservation for any kind of crop grown during this season. Poultry farmers are recommended to maintain strict sanitation for disease avoidance and vaccination should be done for 4-5 days old chicks for Ranikhet disease.

Ranikhet disease is one of the most important viral diseases that affect a wide range of birds. Chickens are the most susceptible to the disease and it can cause heavy mortality at a very fast rate, if care is not taken to vaccinate the birds.
