Clarifies on constable recruitment and AYO seizure
Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Excise Department has issued a clarification on issues that have recently sparked public debate, including the allegations of alcohol sale during a Nagaland Super League (NSL) match, ongoing recruitment process for Excise Constables and recent seizure of illicit liquor by the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO).
Probe initiated into NSL alcohol sale
Regarding the alleged sale of alcohol during the NSL exhibition match, the department confirmed that it has taken note of the allegations. The Commissioner of Excise, H Atokhe Aye, informed that a preliminary inquiry has been initiated. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the factual position and determine if any violations of the state's excise laws have occurred.
Subjudice recruitment process
Addressing the concerns surrounding the Excise Constable recruitment, the department stated that the matter is currently subjudice. Several applicants have challenged certain aspects of the recruitment process before the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench. Consequently, the department is awaiting the final verdict from the court before proceeding further, it stated.
Action on AYO seizure
The department acknowledged the recent interception of IMFL by the AYO near the Kohima area. The Excise Department appreciated the vigilance and cooperation of the youth organisation in lawfully handing over the seized liquor and the conveyance to the Excise authorities. The confiscated items have been deposited in the departmental Malkhana, and a case has been registered. Investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on apprehending the absconding accused.
The department reiterated its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring transparency in its functioning. It appealed to the public not to be swayed by unverified information, adding, “official updates will be communicated through appropriate channels as and when necessary.”
