An international workshop on “Cross-Cultural Folk Traditions and Storytelling” with Illustrator & Scenographer from Wales, Emily Jones, and Poet, Writer & Journalist from Nagaland, Vishü Rita Krocha as resource persons, was conducted on May 5 and 6 at Presidency University, Kolkata.

Organised by the Departments of Performing Arts and English of Presidency University, the workshop was coordinated by Dr Mousumi Mandal and Dr Debaroti Chakraborty and formally declared open in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, Prof Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty.
During the two-day workshop, the two resource persons delivered talks on their experiences of exploring and collaborating with artists from two distinct cultures and nations, which are completely different but also share several similarities.

Further delving into the topic, “cross-cultural folk traditions and storytelling”, they further shared folk narratives from their homelands- stories that could be told through different mediums of art. The artists also touched upon the collaborative process of writing and illustrating pieces from two different lands. Founder of Meta Arts, India, Arnab Banerjee also highlighted about the Wales Arts International-funded project, 'A Page of Two Lands'.

As an outcome of the workshop, the students collaborated with one another, creating different art forms with their works following which, a public showcasing and interaction with the artists was further held on May 6 at the Black Box Theatre, Department of Performing Arts.
The students exhibited stunning performances of their collaborative works in the form of dance, songs, music, narration, artworks, etc.
