The women folk of Porbami celebrated Khukhu festival at Kohima City Centre, Kohima under the aegis of Porbami Social Club, Kohima (PSCK) Thünoko Krotho on August 8.
Cladded in traditional colorful attires and ornaments, the Porbami damsels joined the festivity through cultural songs, indigenous games and merry making in the spirit of friendship and cohesiveness.
Khukhu festival is celebrated to honour the damsels. Delicacies are prepared and served especially for them as sign of care, love and affection.
In her address, Küthovolü Keyho, PGT (Political Science) Govt. Higher Secondary School Jotsoma lauded the men folk of Porbami for honouring women’s strength and dignity through Khukhu festival.
Appreciating their stand on gender quality, she said the legacy must continue for well being of women.
She informed that the central government has introduced Mission Shakti, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme for protection and women empowerment in the country.
In this, she challenged the women to avail the various opportunities being extended by the government.
Talking on importance of education in modern society, she stressed on the need to give more importance to children’s education.
She said that education form the greatest gift one can give to their children for holistic growth and posterity.
She advocated that equal opportunity should be exercised for a strong family and a healthy society.
Also speaking on the occasion, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) president Vechisalü Nukhu called upon the women to preserve the rich culture and traditions to uphold the Naga identity.
She also called upon the parents to encourage their children to speak mother tongue and to promote Tenyidie language.
Earlier, Shekhozo Thulüo, former chairman, Porba Village Council talked on the significance of Khukhu festival.
The programme was chaired by Kudulü T. Vadeo, chairperson, PSCK women wing while Rhücho Türeng, Rtd Registrar, Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change invoked God’s Blessings.
Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh, senior pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima prayed for Kukhu feast.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Zhovelü Dzüdo.
Hüvetsolii Dzüdo pronounced benediction while PSCK chairman Ngosayi D. Sakhamo gave a closing remark.
Mentionably, Porba village lies near Pfutsero in Phek district, is a station of ICAR- National Research Centre on Mithun and also a location of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) Phek district.
