
Meluri, March 21 (MExN): The Pochury Students' Union (PSU) today stated that it was “deeply disturbed” by the killing of Brigadier Eleazar Whuchitu Thupitor of Mokie village and his personal bodyguard, Pvt Shetshale of Old Thewati village on March 1, and condemned the same as “heinous crime.”
The duo, belonging to FGN (Non Accordist), was allegedly killed near Mokie Village under Meluri Sub-Division, Phek District on March 12. According to the PSU, they were “brutally murdered in cold blood and later charred beyond visual recognition.”
“The Union is appalled that such inhumane act is still being committed in our land against our own sons of the soil at a time when the entire Naga populace is yearning for lasting peace after decades of bloodshed and violence,” the PSU asserted in a statement.
“Such cowardly act of terrorism must find no place in a civilized society and ought to be outrightly condemned by all sections of the society,” it said.
The PSU further reiterated that peace and stability is the only solution to usher the people in the path of growth and progress as a tribe and as a Nation.
Accordingly, it appealed the concerned authority to leave no stones unturned in delivering justice to the late victims and aggrieved family members, and that the culprits are immediately brought to justice without further ado.
The PSU further conveyed offers sympathy and condolences to the family members, loved ones and friends of the late victims and shared their pains at this difficult hour of grief.
The Morung Express had earlier reported that the decomposed bodies of the cadres were discovered by villagers in a forested area about 1-2 km away from Mokie village on March 19 and the police were informed around 3:00 pm Sunday on by the villagers.
As per the preliminary inquest, the Phek police official said that the two victims bore bullet marks shot from behind, raising suspicion that they were executed, the report said.
The official said that a case was registered at the Meluri Police Station and investigation was on, it added.
