PWD (Housing) builds in direction of development

In order to create the necessary infrastructure for efficient administration and development of the state, the PWD (Housing) department has undertaken various works involving both non-residential and residential buildings spread out all over the state and beyond. 

The progress of the work of the construction of Chief Minister’s Residential Complex at Kohima stands at 72%. The complex consists of four main components, main residential office, state Banquet Hall and Guest House. Besides, the complex is having 44 numbers of staff quarters and 7 numbers of services and supporting facilities. The project is taken up under HUDCO loan with an estimated cost of Rs. 31.65 Crores (revised) for a plinth area of 1,05,551 sq-ft.

The staff housing Kohima, having 138 dwelling units to accommodate the Secretariat staff has been taken up with a project cost of Rs. 24.36 crores and the work is in progress. The project for Officer’s Transit Hostel, Kohima started at an original estimated cost of Rs. 0.92 crore with a provision of 20 suites and re-revised to Rs. 11.33 crore with a plinth area of 34,646 sq-ft (G+3) for a provision of 40 suites including exterior works viz. protection works, drainage, security fencing etc. The purpose is to accommodate the officers who are transferred to Kohima before the allotment of quarters and also officers on duty to the capital from outside Nagaland. The achievement of the project is 75%.

PWD office complex at Kohima have four directorates headed by one chief engineer each. Above all, there is one engineer- in-chief. The complex is to accommodate the office of the Engineer-in- Chief and the 4 wings, Chief Engineer (PWD (R&B), National Highway, PWD (Housing) and PWD (Mechanical). The project has been sanctioned for Rs. 38.66 crore for a plinth area of 82, 254 sq-ft. The work is in good progress and expected to complete by March 2010, the department said.

The work for construction of Banquet Hall/Flat type staff quarter 10 units at Raj Bhavan with modern amenities has been taken up at the cost of Rs. 5.68 crore which was revised to Rs. 10.78 crores with a target to complete within 20 months. The work is in good progress and expected to complete within the target time i.e. in November 2010.

Construction of Nagaland House at Salt Lake City, Kolkota (Ph.1); As the state grows, the state government officers on official duties and NGOs on business tours also increased and as such the existing Nagaland House could not meet the demands for accommodation. Therefore, a new project (G+9 Multi-storey building) has been taken up at the cost of Rs. 13.60 crores. The project had been completed and waits for inauguration.

Nagaland House and staff quarters at Dwarka, Phase- 1&II and RK Puram, New Delhi; the projects have been sanctioned for Rs. 36.96 crores, Rs. 26.01 crores and Rs. 18.02 crores respectively and the works are in progress. The project comprises Guest Houses and Staff Quarters. These projects have been taken up to cater to the needs of the Nagaland government staff posted to New Delhi and officials and VIPs of official works to New Delhi. The works are in good progress.

Construction of Nagaland Guest House cum Emporium at Vashi, Navi Mumbai; Mumbai is the financial city and gateway of India. Nagaland needs to be exposed to national and international level where the local products could be showcased. This project have taken up at the cost of Rs. 10.71 crores and expected to complete by March 2010.
