PWOK conference focuses on women as “agent of change”

Kohima | May 28 : The 7th general conference of Pochury Women Organization Kohima (PWOK) took place today at the conclave hall of LCS building under the theme “Women- agent of change” with Küsa Fithu, lady wife of parliamentary secretary for tourism, law and justice as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Fithu stressed on the need to go beyond family circle to make a change. She asserted that women have more patience and better understanding than men which women have important role to play for the positive change of the society.  She said that it is high time that women need to look beyond the family, citing example of European countries where an individual woman can do so much for other poor countries for a positive change, “so why not we as a individual or organization too.”
She also stated that Naga women can be an agent of change because we do not have much restriction as compare to other countries. PWOK president Sawmi Leyri also challenged the gathering to bring in positive change in their outlook and be an agent of change and to pass on the same sentiments to the younger generations as well.
She stated that the PWOK, earlier known as Kohima Town Pochury Women Welfare Society was formed in May 1992, adding that successive teams over the years have been instrumental in moulding the Organization to its present status.
Stating that PWOK has 68 members so far, the Organization further extended invitation to all the Pochury women residing in Kohima who names are not in the list to come forward and register their names and be a part of the family.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Vivi Nyuthe. Nino Katiry founding member PWOK, Z.Nyusietho Nyuthe, Additional Deputy Commissioner Phek and Vitsütho Nyuthe Assistant Director, Industries & Commerce also spoke on the occasion. The conference was also marked by discussions and election of new office bearers.
