
Maligaon, November 14 (MExN): Railway electrification works in NF Railway are in various stages of execution in various sections. It is expected that major portion of the work to be completed by this year, informed a press note from the NF Railway today.
The much awaited electric engine hauled train is also likely to reach New Jalpaiguri this year. The Commissioner of Railway Safety, who works under Ministry of Civil Aviation is slated to inspect the Gunjaria – New Jalpaiguri section (160 km) soon to check work done in the section to ensure safety. Approximate cost involved for this portion is about Rs. 165.68 crore. With this the inspection of the entire Katihar – New Jalpaiguri section will be over. From Katihar to New Jalpaiguri 14 power sub-station has been commissioned which will provide 25KV AC power to engines.
This portion is part of work for electrification of Barauni – Katihar - Guwahati section which was sanctioned by Railway Board in 2008-09. Accordingly, work progressed phase wise as well as section wise so that normal train running do not get affected.
It may be mentioned here that the entire portion of track including branch lines in NFR was sanctioned for 100% electrification in budget of 2017-18. Total cost of the entire electrification work in NFR is Rs. 2,542.62 crs (approx) and electrification work has made good progress in some sections like Raninagar Jalpaiguri - New Coochbehar – New Bongaigaon - Sarupeta.
Some important section where electrification work has been in progress are Gunjaria – New Jalpaiguri; New Jalpaiguri – Raninagar Jalpaiguri; Raninagar Jalpaiguri – Falakata; Falakata-New Coochbehar (80 kms); New Coochbehar - New Bongaigaon; New Bongaigaon – Sarupeta; New Bongaigaon – Jogighopa; and New Jalpaiguri station yard (49 kms).
